That time of year has come around where lists begin to pile up of all the things you would like to accomplish in 2016. With the New Year also comes high ambitions and an increase in motivation to grow your company and improve your services.

NEXT Financial Group, Inc. (“NEXT”), has come up with a checklist that will allow you to channel your new found energy toward bettering your practice in 2016.

Update your filing system — If your office is filling up with paperwork, throw away any old documents that are no longer of use to your practice. This will lessen the amount of papers that you have to keep track of and filter through.

Enhance organization strategies —Color code your emails and calendar appointments as a way to prioritize and create structure in your busy schedule.

Get to know your customers on a personal level — Start building strong relationships with a handful of people, and grow that number over time. One way to do this is to call your top customers regularly, and ask if there are any additional ways you can assist them.

Maintain your website — Keep your website up-to-date on any upcoming events or changes within your practice. Think of your website as another way to constantly keep in touch with your customers.

Learn from other professionals — Attend as many seminars and regional events as possible. This is an effective way to learn how other advisors are generating success.

Set goals for customer phone calls — Before talking with clients, prepare what you are going to say and what you want out of the conversation. Each customer has different needs and should be addressed in a personalized manner.

Anticipate interruptions throughout the day — Allow time in your schedule to be taken away from your projects for last minute interruptions and unexpected customer visits.

Block off 15 minutes at the end of the day — Use this time to map out what will need to be accomplished before the end of the week. This is also a good time to prioritize any current or ongoing projects.

Keeping Up With Your Goals

Following a New Year resolution requires determination and effort. Only choose a few from the list above, or make goals of your own, and focus on achieving those goals daily. Write your goals down as a way to remind yourself what you are working toward, and revisit this checklist to keep track of your progress.

Also, do not be afraid to adjust your objectives throughout the year based on what is best for your practice. Have a happy New Year, and best of luck achieving your goals.
